POWERING THROUGH

July 27, 2023 by Keith Senzer

When it comes to teens facing adversity, there is no one-size-fits-all solution, as each individual and situation is unique to them and how they relate to it.

It is important for them to understand that avoiding it only makes it harder and what they are facing won’t always go away or serve them to avoid. Sometimes just powering through is the best solution. It may be difficult but it is surely rewarding when they get to the other side.

Encourage your teens to reach out to trusted friends, family members, or mentors who can provide emotional support and guidance during challenging times. Having a strong support network can make a significant difference in overcoming adversity.

Help them develop resilience, which is the ability to bounce back from setbacks. Teach them coping strategies such as problem-solving skills, positive self-talk, and self-care practices like exercise, relaxation techniques, and pursuing hobbies or interests that bring them joy.

Encourage your teens to set realistic goals that can be achieved step by step. Breaking down larger goals into smaller, manageable tasks can make them more attainable and provide a sense of accomplishment along the way.

Help your teens identify and develop their strengths and talents. Building skills in areas they enjoy can boost confidence and provide a sense of purpose, which can be instrumental in overcoming adversity.

It is essential to approach your teen with empathy, active listening, and non-judgmental support. Every individual’s journey through adversity is unique, and providing a safe space for them to express their feelings and concerns can make a significant difference in their ability to find the best way forward.
