A wise statement from a wise man!
Imagine if he gave up after the British struggled in WW2 fighting the Axis forces.
Failure is the only way we grow!
The more we fail the more we grow!
I cannot emphasize enough the importance of teaching this lesson to our teens.
As a parent, I understand the difficulty in watching them fail when we know we can just jump in and save the day.
If they do not lean how to manage failure young, it will have much more impactful consequences on them as adults. They will lack grit, resilience and confidence. These are 3 traits that many successful people possess.
Helping them to understand that failure has a lesson and this lesson teaches us how to avoid that failure in the future is invaluable.
Set up a routine where maybe you check in at dinner on wins and challenges. Go first and be vulnerable and model for them that it is alright to talk about failures and challenges. Share experiences and offer each other support around these challenges so they become wins and are no longer negative experiences but opportunities for growth and learning.
They will learn grit, resilience and gain confidence. This will serve them well into adulthood.
