My Story

keith-sWelcome to Powershift Coaching. I am Keith Senzer and I work with teens to promote personal growth and acceptance. Powershift Coaching is the culmination of a 25 year journey of personal transformation and exploration.

My story is simple but shared by many. I grew up on the South Shore of Long Island to a wonderful set of parents who instilled in me values that I still live by. When I was a child many of the labels children are given today such as ADD, ADHD and OCD, were not prevalent in society and awareness was limited. I am sure I had some form of ADD because I could not focus in school, had trouble fitting in, and was a bit socially awkward.

We all can agree that Middle School and High School years are not fun when you feel like you don’t fit in. At least that’s what I believed. Let me tell you, that is the farthest thing from the truth. As a result of my attentional and social issues, I graduated high school with a C+ average. It made my parents crazy because my teachers told them how bright I was and my intelligence testing revealed much higher potential. Nobody understood why this bright young man could not meet his potential.

The one thing I did have going for me was my “people” skills and the ability to relate to and work
with others. I enjoyed helping others but my grades didn’t allow me to go into a field like psychology or social work where I could make a difference. Or so I believed. Are you seeing the pattern? I believed things about myself which limited my ability to live to my true potential. I am sure this sounds familiar to many of you.

I graduated from Johnson and Wales University with a Degree in Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management. I worked for 12 years in the hotel business in upstate New York and Manhattan. I decided I wanted to go off on my own and bought two catering halls on Long Island. That is what I have done for the past 12 years. Though I learned much about business, I just was not satisfied. There has always been something inside me that desired a career with a more fulfilling purpose. I wanted to help others make the world better, and create awareness and tolerance of others and their differences.

Well, I found it! I finally fulfilled my passion and found the career I have been searching for. I found it in my children. They are the motivation and inspiration for why I am a Life Coach and in a second you will see why I am more than qualified to help you reach your maximum potential and step into the power that you have, but just may not yet know.

My daughter Jessica is a brilliant young woman who struggled like all kids throughout school because of the standards that society has created and put on our students to over-achieve. As a result of these standards, she put pressure on herself and believed she had to achieve at a high level to be someone. Sound familiar?

My son Brett has received special support since he is 18 months old to overcome various issues. He is definitely my kid. He struggled to learn and function in school settings. He had to work much harder than the other kids to keep up and maintain the level of success in school that society expects of us.

I was not going to allow this to define them. They are who they are, unique and special in their own ways. My wife and I worked hard to raise them to not believe these expectations and to be comfortable in their own skin. I have lived with the struggle of raising good children in this society and am proud to say I am still enjoying this success for my children.

I taught my kids how to SHIFT their perspectives and react to what they see and hear so that it doesn’t impact their confidence and allow others to make them experience feelings they didn’t want to feel. My daughter is a Freshman at Binghamton University. She is active in many clubs and has board positions on quite a few of them as well. She is beloved by her peers and believes strongly in helping others.

My son started High School this year. He is probably the most self confident and coolest kid I know. He earns good grades and has wonderful friends. If you are struggling with ADHD, meet him. He blows the roof off any pre conceived notions of what limitations ADHD can have on a child. They have no limitations unless you allow them too.

Through My “Oh-Shift” and “Oh-Shift for Teens” workshops I will teach you the skills you need to feel comfortable with who you are and allow yourself to step into your power. Your personal power can move mountains. You just have to step into it!

I am also glad to work with you individually to help you achieve your true potential and live the life you so desire.

Thank you for hearing my story, and Let Powershift Coaching help co-create yours!
